Target Species
BACKGROUND
Hastings Creek is a tributary to Lynn Creek and is a significant feature in Princess Park, Hunter Park, and winds through various commercial and residential neighborhoods in Lynn Valley. It has been known to support Dolly Varden, cutthroat, coho, sculpin, and steelhead.
Streamkeepers is working with DFO to replace an existing fish ladder at Hoskins Rd. The aluminum ladder is a Denil fishway design with a rise of approximately 10 ft, installed in the 1980s. Intended to help coho migrate to the upper reaches of the creek, the design is aging and functioning poorly.
Project Status
DFO and Streamkeepers met in Spring 2025 to survey the ladder, and alternate designs are currently being considered. Streamkeepers will have a role in fundraising for construction. It is hoped the new ladder can be built during the fish window of 2026.
